Product Description

Product Description

Rust-Oleum 316 Bulls Eye Clear Shellac, 1/2-Pint

From the Manufacturer

Bulls Eye Shellac is an alcohol-based solution of lac, a natural resin. Dries transparent with a faint, golden cast that is much lighter than oil-base varnishes. Offers many advantages over other clear finishes: it's easy to use, dries quickly, is non-toxic when dry and cleans up easily with ammonia and water.

The tiniest can

The tiniest can
It's shellac! It's a tiny can, though. I admit I didn't quite picture the right size in my head when I ordered this one. It's only maybe 3 inches tall -- the tiniest cans they make, if you're at the home improvement store staring at the wall of paints and stains and varnishes. This is good if you really only need it for a very small project, but if you're using it on furniture or larger pieces, you're going to want a larger can. I'm using it on artwork for effect, and I used about half the can on one 16x20 and a smaller odd size, about equivalent to an 8x10. I put it on very heavily, though - your mileage may vary. It is nice and clear, no contaminants or anything that I've come across in my half can usage. I'm pleased with it and will likely buy it again ... but in a larger size.

Been using this stuff for a while now. Always makes a quality seal for sanding or add a few coats for a nice natural finish. I added a couple pictures of a tabletop and an acoustic iPhone amp I made using the shellac as a finish. Helinskicustomwood on fbook :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, works great
Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2016
We used this shellac on some wood slice centerpieces and coasters for our wedding. The shellac was easy to use, dried quickly with little smell (outside, of course), and had a great finish that wasn't too different than the raw wood after 2-3 coats. The coasters absorb water well and have held up during and after the wedding. Only complaint is that I somehow ended up with a water ring from a centerpiece on 1 of my centerpieces - I probably needed an extra coat on that one! We also ended up needing a LOT more than what was in this little container, we got 2 additional jars at a hardware store. So take that into account when you're estimating how much you'll need!
