I give this modem a 5 for ease of use in getting it hooked up and working. Within ten minutes you can have it out of the box, cables hooked up and running. Quality...seems just as good if not better than before and it seems the webpages are loading more quickly than before. The streaming of Netflix, Hulu, etc. seems to have improved as well. One of the features with this modem is it has an actual on/off power button whereas my previous Netgear's did not which caused you to have to actually unplug the modem to reset it. All in all I am very satisfied with this purchase and I would recommend it.
First is the heat produced by the device. I've attached a photo taken with a thermal camera, showing the modem after being in use for 2 hours. It reads 111 degrees Fahrenheit at the hottest point. (Approx. 44 degrees Celcius) This means that the modem is warm to the touch, but not hot.
I also measured the idle power consumption of the modem using a kill-a-watt device. This is with the modem connected to the network and some devices connected via a router having some connections open, but no active downloads or streaming occurring. Idle power consumption averaged at 7.7 Watts.
I like the modem itself, although I'm not sure at this point if I'm going to keep it. Compared to my previous modem, (SB6141) both the power consumption (5.9W vs 7.7W) and heat output (98F vs 111F) are higher. On the plus side, it offers twice as many channels and twice the maximum speed. Considering the performance bump, the difference between the two devices likely means the MB7420 is actually better from a performance per watt perspective. If you need the kind of speed this modem is capable of, it seems like a very good option.

It is quick and easy to set up.
We have an Xfinity plan with 300MB/s download speed. The two of us surf and download to our gigabit Ethernet port PC's 24/7/365. We attached a gigabit Wi-Fi router for the TV, phones, and tablets, which works well throughout the house, albeit not at 300MB/s (unsurprisingly)--we wanted the flexibility to choose and update the modem and router separately, since routers advance more quickly.
Our plan has only about 20 MB/s upload speed--to upgrade to a higher upload speed, Xfinity told us that our 3-in-1 (Internet, TV, phone) plan would have to be exchanged for more expensive business version plan, which we have not done yet. The reason we are uploading 24/7/365 is that I am continuously backing up my PC (with its eight 8TB WD Reds) to a cloud service (Backblaze, highly recommended). This cloud backup would be greatly hastened by a much faster upload speed, although enough files change frequently on my data HDD's that I may never get a complete backup in my lifetime :). An upgrade to the Xfinity business plan would seem obvious until you estimate the backup time when using 100 MB/s instead of the current 15+ and discovered the backup would still take nearly forever.
Somewhat off-topic: My primary data backup is a duplicate set of eight 8TB HDDs which I keep updated from the primary ones, and then power them off to avoid malware. My boot SSD and internal working data SSD are both automatically imaged every day to a pair of 2TB external SSD's that are powered on at the scheduled image time.
