I received my new ATH-M50xBT Earphones only a couple of weeks ago. I am thrilled with them because they sound great. Also they have Bluetooth so I don't need to be tied to the music source with a long cable. I discovered through the internet that the ear pads are replaceable with upgraded pads. I also discovered that I am not the only person that find the stock ear pads uncomfortable. Thanks to Amazon, I was able to research all of the upgraded ear pads and read all of the reviews.
I finally decided on the Brainwavz Ear Pads in PU Leather and I am glad I did. These pads are very comfortable and they cover my ears which also blocks out the ambient sound around me and keeps the music from leaking out and disturbing others.
I am very happy with the sound of my earphones with these new pads. There was a slight change in sound from the stock pads. I actually like the sound better due to the over the ear pads and because my ears are further from the speakers. You have to understand, I am a retired band director and I love live music. I want to hear the instruments as if I was in amongst the band members. I don't like my music distorted with equalizers.
It surprised me that there were so many complaints from others of poor sound quality. It could be the equalizer issue or maybe it is due to how their equalizer is set.
I have no complaints. I like these replacement pads so much I plan on buying another set of these pads for my M40fs earphones.
Well I went ahead and purchased the Audio-Technica ATH-M20xBT. The sound is great but again they had the same ear pads as the 50s. I began to have problems with fatigue and discomfort with the ear pads. Therefor, I ordered the Brainwavz Ear Pads in PU Leather. What a pleasant difference in comfort and much less fatigue. The sound is better as well. I added a few more photos. I am definitely sold on Brainwavz Ear Pads.

Pros:
Large. They go around my ear, making the entire pad a contact surface not creating a pressure point. There is no pressure on any part of my ear.
Soft. The memory foam feels good, the pleather is high quality, and soft.
Looks good (for the size).
Increased Sound Stage. (drivers are further from your ear)
Cons:
Very slight loss of Bass. (drivers are further from your ear) Nothing the Manufacturer can do about that other than make the pads less thick... but then you're back in the same boat as the OEM pads... This bass drop was very very slight for me. Others have claimed ZERO bass. I didnt' have this issue. Honestly, it's barely noticeable for me. But I have large ears, and the pads are sealing well for me, so perhaps their heads are shaped differently and they aren't getting a good seal.
Headphones fall off my head more easily.. ESP while looking down at my feet. (getting something out of a backpack for example)
I ordered white. The material that allows it to attach to the headphone is an off white cream color. I wish it was the same color as the rest of the pad. It looks out of place.
Other thoguhts:
I'm already self conscious about wearing these headphones around (ATX M50x) because of the size. I feel like people look at me and think "what is this guy wearing"... well these pads just make that worse. They are absolutely HUGE now. I have custom IEMs that I wear when i'm out and about mainly because of sound isolation and looks. I prefer the sound of over ear headphones over IEMs but if you're wearing these around a lot then it may be something to consider... maybe I shouldn't care what others think.
I had them on for about 4 hours straight the first day I got them with very little ear fatigue. After an hour break, had another 3 hour session and my ears weren't hurting. I've worn them about 5-6 hours a day for a week and it's amazing how improved the comfort is. I couldn't wear the headphones (ATH M50x) for more than 2 hours before with out my ears hurting and me constantly adjusting the headphones trying to relieve pressure points. Now I have no issues.
The attached photos use my 15" RMBP for a size reference, as well as the carrying bag included with my ATH-M50x.

Earpads are of very good quality. The material is thicker than what I expected, but it's fine. The OEM earpads of the 'xfree go' were really very thin and soft to the touch but because of that I think it wore off soon. But since these are thicker I expect them to last longer. The cushions are memory foam as advertised and the comfort is great even for long durations.
FITMENT:
I knew that these were larger for my Tribit xfree go, but I wanted to try them out since they looked so comfortable and I also couldn't find one for the right size for my headphones. For my unit I had to cut some portions of the earpad's "skirt" at the back in order for it to fit perfectly with the dimensions of the mounting disc of my headphones. So these are very large compared to the OEM ones, but I made them work out with some adjustments.
DOES IT AFFECT SOUND QUALITY?
It definitely altered the sound quality a bit which I noticed. When I had the OEM earpads, my ears would touch the speaker/driver since they were much smaller and shallower. But now the earpads go properly over my ears and there seems to be a gap between my ears and the speaker/driver. The side walls are also thick, there is a lot more room inside. So all of this had an effect on the sound signature. The lower frequencies have more emphasis now than the higher frequencies. When watching movies, the sound effects, gun shots and everything is loud, but the voices are minimized. So I have to always listen with three steps of higher volume than before. It is a minor change which over time one can get used to, but you will definitely notice at first. On the flip side, experience of listening to bassy music has improved.
Now this is very specific to my particular headphones for which these earpads are not exactly meant for. But for someone who is not too picky about the sound altering ever so slightly these earpads can definitely be used to elongate the life span of a perfectly functioning headphones that just have worn out earpads. Especially if your headphones are amongst the list for which these earpads are actually made for.
