Out (Camassia Cove Universe Book 6) Kindle Edition
Comedy Romance | Coming Out Story | Hurt/Comfort | Age Difference | Standalone
A sizzling romance about a young man on a quest for answers—and the older, jaded man who gets his world turned upside down. It’s a summer of self-discovery, fantasies, firsts, and coming to life.
I had two things on my list when I arrived in Los Angeles. One, track down Henry Bennington, the uncle and guardian of my little brother’s best friend Tyler, and tell him to get his ass back to Washington. Because his nephew was getting out of control and losing track of his future. And two, figure out just how non-straight I was.
Nowhere on this list did it say, “Get Tyler’s uncle into bed and fall for him.”
Nowhere.
This story takes place in Cara Dee’s Camassia Cove Universe, a fictional town where all books stand on their own, unless otherwise stated, and the reader can jump in wherever they want.

About the author

Romance Across the Spectrum.
I’m often awkwardly silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there’s so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex.
There’s a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly.
Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve.
I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.
Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.
I'm a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, cooking, baking, and geeking. There’s time for hockey and family, too. But mostly, I just love to write.
~Cara.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2020Immediately engaging. I liked Zachary right away and despite all of of Henry's hesitance, I enjoyed him too. The entire cast has personality that grabs you and won't let you go. I wish that I had found this author sooner so I could have been enjoying her writing for a lot longer. The length of this story was pretty spot-on because it gave ample time for all aspects of Zach and Henry's relationship to be addressed. A couple things weren't completely resolved, but that's what Out For the Holidays is for. The book ended on a happy, committed, hopeful note. There was so much change for just about every character, especially the MC's, that it brought so much more meaning to the title of the book. Out is much, much more than a sexuality statement, it's more of a statement of being. Being free and open and out in every way that can matter.
There are a lot of excerpts to choose from but I like this one best because it kind of sums up a lot of the crazy, humor, and stress that Zach experiences and this is kind of the icing on the cake. In a fit of pique and hurt feelings he snatches up Eagle and all his cat paraphernalia and makes the trek home only to be stopped in hot-as-freak Bakersfield. While sitting there he catches a glimpse of his crazy and also what he could have had if Henry had enough faith in Zach to believe in his level of commitment. There's a lot that goes on with that lack of faith but with Zach's youth Henry piles the age gap onto his fear and he ends up sabotaging himself and the future that Zach wants to much.
I was so impressed by Zach. He's incredibly insightful and mature for his age. His life hasn't been easy and he had to grow up really quickly. Along with having to raise his younger brother and run a convenience store all while figuring out life, he came out surprisingly awesome. He finally gets the chance to explore a part of himself that he'd been neglecting for a couple of years and is incredibly lucky to happen upon the perfect people to become his support. It helps that one of them was a sexy older man that captivates and arouses him more than any other man before.
Sexy man Henry is also impressive because even though he tries to give Zach an out over and over again, he doesn't push him away. He does his best to communicate and is open with how much he wants Zach. Their interplay is both tender and incendiary. They have awesome chemistry and also fit together like an old married couple. So much win when they get things right.
And then there's the supporting cast. Martin in all his flamboyance and pastries provides a really great foil for the more brooding Henry. He is lightness and humor and honesty and insight. Mattie is all kinds of acceptance and unconditional love for his brother. He is also tremendously patient and just as insightful as Zach is. With his love and snark they have the best sibling relationship. Tyler is a bit more trouble but he's working through his own difficulty with his past. As he stumbles along he has a great support system in every one else. All in all, I'm in love. All of these men are fantastic! There are appearances by Noah and Julian as well as Dominic and Adrian that round out the cast. I haven't read their stories but I absolutely will!
Overall, this is an amazing story with healing, freedom, humor, craziness, new friends, and a lot of Purple Haze. Zach truly gets Henry and Henry comes alive for Zach. Definitely one of my new favorite books.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2017Out is the story of 27-year-old Zachary who's been raising his younger since the age of 18 after his mother's suicide. He's been comfortable in his skin until he started realizing he's attracted to men. He lives in a small town that doesn't have much room for exploring. When he feels the need to seek out his younger brother's friend's uncle, Henry, in L.A. he figures that gives him the perfect opportunity to test the waters. What he didn't count on was the uncle being his wet dream.
Some highlights:
-Zachary. I love dual POVs, but in this instance, I didn't mind only being in Zach's head. He was funny, sweet, and a tad quirky. I loved seeing the world through his eyes.
-Relationship development. Insta-lust, insta-love, I was insta-all-in!! These two had me awwing and fanning myself from one moment to the next.
-Humor. Between the chapter titles, Zach's inner monologue, and the banter I found myself smiling and laughing out loud.
-Henry. His family background will have you rooting for him, and his personality will make you fall in love with him.
-The side characters were awesome!! Please write a story for Mattie, Ty (maybe Mattie & Ty...), Martin, and even he who shall remain nameless.
-Chemistry. Dirty talk, mild age play, some edging- I mean this book was hoooot!
-Relationship angst. It wasn't overdone; it was understandable, and I liked how it was resolved.
All in all, this was a HUGE win.
It had:
-Age gap
-Mild kink
-Steam
-Self discovery
It was:
-Emotional
-Humorous
-Endearing
4.5 Highly Recommended Stars!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2018Cara Dee presents a very freeing story with Out. I love the premise, not just based off Zach's journey regarding his sexuality or him reaching out to Henry for help with Ty, it is the ability the author has to delve deep into various themes, weaving them flawlessly though the storyline. It really touches the heart.
This book made me laugh so many times. I don't think I have ever laughed that much when I've read any other book by this author. I enjoyed the change of pace a bit but there was still good tension between Zach and Henry. Cara Dee still avoided the clichéd type of romances, which I appreciated.
Character development was solid, especially considering the use of secondary characters and how Care Dee adds to their depth. I love Martin! The interactions between all characters were spectacular but especially between Henry and Martin. It all felt very genuine and not forced. The world building continues to be detailed so it kept me fully engrossed.
Excellent sexual tension between Zach and Henry and definitely hot scenes. Some light kink and most of all definite deliciousness.
5 Stars for humor, sexiness and an enthralling read!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good
An enjoyable fun story. There were so many moments that had me sniggering.
I really like that Zach jumped in with both feet and didn’t question what was happening between him and Henry, he just knew what he wanted and went for it.
I got frustrated with Henry essentially pushing Zach away, it had me feeling like he didn’t believe anything Zach said.
I’m curious for what happens in Out For the Holidays.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read
I love love love! It seems that Cara can do no wrong! I've actively searched for something I genuinely dislike about her books and I can't find anything!
Zach is so sweet and confused and just overall adorable in his awkwardness of coming out and trying to figure out EVERYTHING!
Henry...* sigh*. Henry is just so self-depricating and a total sweetheart and gah!
Not to mention Martin, who is fabulous and glamorous and such a wonderful wonderful friend to both Henry and Zach.
The characters are relatable, the story just the right balance of reality and fantasy and the writing is just bloody fantastic!

I absolutely adored this book.
One of my favourite genres is gay romance and for me it makes it even sweeter when the MC either isn’t sure he’s gay or if he’s never done anything with another guy before.
And this is exactly what Zach was like. He was sure he liked men but had never done anything with one, and I love going through that journey with him. All the first feelings and first touches. I just loved it.
And I loved Henry, how he needed Zach so perfectly but was afraid because of the age gap. Which I absolutely loved! I’m a sucker for age gaps.
I also loved the side characters of this book. I loved Mattie and Martin and also Ty, even if he was a prick but he was just hurting and trying not to show it.
This book had everything for me. I loved it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read
Very enjoyable read with two MCs and a whole cast of characters that made me smile, although the main story line of finding Henry sort out Ty kinda falls by the wayside, and Zach's inner badass with Ty never really comes to light. That said, the whole thing works well as a vehicle to bring Henry and Zach's story to life, which was pleasant age gap romance

5.0 out of 5 stars fun family love story
Loved this. Great characters. Fascinating story of coming out, evolving and having fun and falling in love, and growing into a new future. Funny, appealing, sexy and family.
