In 2009, Daniel Galhardo introduced a simple Japanese method of fly-fishing called tenkara, outside of Japan. He founded the company Tenkara USA to embark on a mission to share the tenkara story with others and to let people know that fly-fishing could be simple.

Daniel was born and raised in Brazil where he taught himself how to fly-fish when he was 15 years old. And when he was 24 he discovered tenkara and introduced it outside of Japan.

Tenkara USA is based in Boulder, Colorado

The author goes into great detail both in his own personal journey into tenkara as well as the Japanese history. I also like and appreciate the links to videos that are found throughout the book, that are much more helpful than trying to explain things with words and diagrams -- the videos are well done and useful. There are a couple good chapters on equipment and technique as well.
My only critique is the reminiscing by the author about his time in Japan, his mentors, and his spiritual journey relating to this method of fly fishing -- it's a bit overdone. Other than that, it's worth the price .. well done.

Having just learned about Tenkara i visited Tenkara USA and saw this book, i wanted it quickly so i got the kindle version. i could not be happier. it is clear and easy to understand and was written for beginners with lots of pictures. I have some ponds nearby so after setting up my gear i went out and have been catching fish after fish, Bluegill, Largemouth bass and Crappie. i literally caught 50 fish in 5 hours! a few other anglers where there and only caught one or two. One was on his cell phone talking to someone and i heard him say that fishing was bad but some guy was killing them with some kind of fly rod thing! Worth every penny. With each passing hour you learn something new and add a new technique to your arsenal. easy to learn but a lifetime to master.
