PUCKED (The Pucked Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
A standalone, brother's teammate hockey romance.
I just snuck out of pro hockey’s most notorious playboy’s bed last night.
I have zero interest in legendary hockey player Alex Waters or his pretty, beat-up face and rock-hard six-pack abs. Having a famous pro athlete for a stepbrother means I’m aware that a lot of these guys are notorious f-boys, therefore all hockey games I attend are under duress.
That is until Alex starts talking books to me.
Then he becomes more than just a hot body with the face to match.
And I discover just how good Alex is with the hockey stick in his pants.
I consider our night of orgasmic magic as just that: one night.
But Alex starts to call.
And text.
And email and send extravagant—and quirky—gifts.
Suddenly, he's too difficult to ignore, and nearly impossible not to like.
The problem?
Alex is a total player.
And me?
I don’t want to be part of the game.

As with all the other Helena Hunting books that I have read previously, this book was so easy to get lost in. I love Hunting's no nonsense writing style. Her writing style is down to earth and relatable. I enjoyed the way the plot played out in this one. It is a typical hockey romance trope but the magic is in the way that Hunting executes it. The world-building was fantastic. I felt so immersed in this world.
These characters were phenomenal! Honestly, they were really something else. Hunting crafted their personalities to a T. No joke. They were genuine and authentic and so relatable. The secondary characters were a delight as well! I really can't wait to get to the other books in this series so I can delve deeper into their characters.
The romance in this book was hot, okay? Violet and Alex had this organic and effortless chemistry that was explosive. I loved Alex's courtship of Violet. He was so determined to have her. Violet was a bit hesitant where the real feelings were concerned throughout their relationship but that was only because she was scared. You could tell the way that these two felt about each other from a mile away. And the steamy bits were super hot so that didn't hurt either.
Overall, this was a funny, steamy, heartfelt hockey romance that really ticked all the boxes for me. I was on cloud nine with this book. I finished the last page and I wanted more. If you are a fan of sports romances with memorable and relatable characters, outstanding storytelling, and a plot that keeps you wanting more then you'll want to pick this one up. Honestly, I may be one of the last people in the universe that hadn't read this yet but I digress. I can't wait for the next book of this series!
Violet Hall, stepsister of "Buck" Butterson, new teammate of Alex. A Junior Accountant for a Sports Agency, she's kind of nerdy but in a hot way. Awkward & Quirky. A warped sense of humor & so much sass. She's actually quite adorable.
The attraction between these two is instantaneous. One meeting of their eyes between the plexiglass and they're both intrigued. A meet up at the bar after the game leads to Violet making a move to anger/shut up her bossy, domineering Stepbrother.
Her reference to kissing is hysterical 🤣 (see sense of humor).
Before anything other than the meeting of mouths happens, Violet calls it a night, leaving Alex with her phone number. Unable to let her go, Alex reaches out to her almost immediately and asks her to hang out, with the promise of nothing more. However, with chemistry as hot as theirs, one thing leads to another and Violet is met with a HUGE surprise 😉💥
After what is thought to be a one night stand, imagine Violet's surprise when Alex keeps coming around. She's hesitant based on his reputation & her history with hockey players but ultimately gives in to his wooing & sweetness. She sees a side of him that others have not. His true self.
As their relationship grows, insecurities & miscommunications start to creep in. Violet can be a tad on the immature side, but Alex isn't completely innocent at the end of the day.
A third act break-up that could have absolutely been avoided if they only knew how to communicate with each other but they ultimately got it right 💗
I definitely laughed throughout. ("MC", "Snuffleupagus", "Snuffie"... Costumes and more 🤣). The things Violet comes up with, lol. Alex is definitely a team player when it comes to her antics. These two ended up being perfect for one another.
This was my first from this author. Definitely not my last.

This really was great fun with a healthy dash of angst for good measure. It took me a bit longer to read - I read sections in between other books - but I didn’t enjoy it any less because of that. I think I’ll keep these books as my palette cleanser in between the darker stories that I love.
Violet is an absolute riot. She seems to have a faulty connection between her brain and her mouth, with often hilarious results. Alex is the player who is not, in fact, a player, despite his reputation. This is the story of their love and the challenges they face. It’s sweet and silly and all sorts of fun. Unabashedly 5/5, looking forward to reading more of the series.
