I have been looking for tape like this for aero handlebars I got for my son. These bars are quite wide across the top, as carbon fiber makes arbitrary shapes possible. In the past, the practice with wide bars has been to tape them halfway up, finishing just above the brake levers, and leaving the top of the bars bare. This does look cool, no doubt, but I wanted to fully tape the new bars for several reasons:
- Stopping the tape at the brake lever means the tape ends at a common hand position, which means it will unravel, almost certainly in the middle of a long ride far from any source of electrical tape
- The bare bar tops become slippery with sweat. While this is manageable for me, my kid has seen plenty of footage of pros riding with just their forearms resting on the tops, and being 15 years old, has not seen amateurs crashing horribly while imitating pros. Having 3 inches of textured tape under each forearm provides just over 3 inches of peace of mind. Though air bags under the tape would provide more. Small steps.
- The internal routing for the handlebars was too aggressive for the brake cable housing, so I needed to hide them under the tape.
After taping the bars and external brake cable housing, I had 4 inches of tape left over on each side. And, surprisingly, the bars look cooler than if I had left the tops bare.

PROS:
(A) LENGTH. 94 inches of tape for each side which is 10-15 inches longer than many other brands. This allows me to increase the padding on my bars by overlapping each turn a bit more than normal. I need the extra padding due to my hands becoming numb when I ride long distances. If you don’t need the extra padding, you can always cut off any excess as you get close to the stem. The extra length also allows you to do a figure 8 around the shifters, if you like to wrap that way. In any scenario you should never run out of this tape on traditional road bike drop bars like my Trek road bikes have.
(B) GRIPINESS. Just the perfect amount of grip. Not too sticky, but more than enough to keep your hands from sliding around on the bar. Good padding too along with the grip.
(C) LONGEVITY. This tape seems to last at least several hundred miles longer than cheaper tapes I have purchased. Can’t quantify it exactly, but my reorders don’t seem as often and I ride about the same.
(D) NO SLIDE. This tape once placed doesn’t slide around on the bar as some others do. Now I help that a bit by using a tip I saw on the Internet where I FIRST wrap my bars with hockey stick tape (sticky side up). Not only does the hockey tape give me just a tiny bit more padding, but when you wrap the bar tape over it, it makes a strong bond with the hockey tape and the bar tape never slips. When you go to remove the tape, the hockey tape – since it was placed sticky side up – comes off easily.
CONS:
(A) INITIAL PRICE. It’s only a con if you don’t consider how long it lasts, but it is a bit more costly initially.
(B) COLOR. This really isn’t a con either, but I did order WHITE once. It looked great for about a week and then it looked awful. No matter how I tried to clean it, it just didn’t look bright white any longer. Don’t get me wrong, I like the looks of white bar tape on a road bike, but it’s just easier to go with black and be done with it. No matter what you get on it, black will still look black the day you have to remove it.
OVERALL: I REALLY appreciate the extra length this company put onto its tape roll. 94 inches doesn’t seem like a big deal, until you realize you haven’t wrapped as close to the stem as you would like. Until I see something much better, this is the bar tape I’m going with.

Mine didn’t come with finishing tape but I just used my own electrical tape.
So far so good! I’ll update if I run into any issues.
