It has a more interesting design than the Microkey in my opinion. It is white instead of black, touch sensitive mod and pitch pads instead of the typical wheels, and lots more leds, which i'm a sucker for. The casing is mostly metal, which is great, though there are a few plastic pieces at the ends. The knobs feel good, the buttons click well, and the fact that there are rgb leds under them is a nice surprise.
What about the keys though? They are the most important part after all. I can say that I'm satisfied with them. The keys themselves are significantly smaller than full size keys, but I haven't had to adjust much to play it well. I should point out that I have small hands, so it is probably easier for me than some others. The key feel is nothing special, with a typical springy resistance, but I like them nonetheless. I prefer this feel to the Alesis QX 49 that this keyboard is replacing, although only by a small margin. I can't be sure, but I feel like I've noticed a slight rub with some of the keys. I'll come back to this review if this continues and it degrades the keys. It seems fine for now, and it doesn't bother me. The touch sensitivity feels about right, though it's no where near the "correctness" of my Korg Triton LE. The Triton is a hammer action keyboard though, so it's not really a fair comparison. For a spring resistance keyboard, the X6 does a good enough job. Ultimately, it's fun and enjoyable to play, and that's the most important part in my opinion. It's also been doing a perfectly good job recording to my DAW.
If you are looking for a compact 61 key keyboard, I don't think you can beat this, and certainly not at its $100 price range. The build quality is surprisingly good, the keys feel good, and it has an attractive design. I think it will last, but I will revisit this review if it wears prematurely. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase.
Pros: The semi weighted keys are excellent! It feels a lot more like playing an actual piano than most MIDI controllers, so playing it feels more natural and fun. The knobs are nice and responsive, and the velocity curves aren't bad at all. I use FL Studio, so I can manually edit the velocity curves to adjust the sensitivity. The velocity response actually gives the weighted keys a much nicer, realistic feel, which is fantastic for the price. I like how the pitch and mod "wheels" are essentially touch pads. The material feels sturdy, and it's a nice, simple device overall. I didn't realize it included play and record buttons up at the top, another nice bonus.
Cons: the keys are slightly smaller than full sized keys, which can make playing with it feel slightly awkward at first. The pitch pad feels slightly less responsive than a physical pitch wheel might be, but it's fast enough to give a good quick and easy pitch bend.
Overall, I love the heck out of this thing. Its competitors from M Audio and Alesis are perhaps just as nice, but have a higher price due to having substantial software packages included. I only needed the keyboard, so I'm pretty happy with it
CONS: The velocity curves are not great. Level 1 is very soft and level 2 is almost too hard. Level 3 is almost as though velocity is disabled with only the lightest feather touch will register anything less than full. The pitch bend strip from time to time will stick instead of returning to center. This doesn't happen often but if you quick flick it just right it will peg to full up or down. The LED light levels are quite blinding, to the point they bleed thru the white plastic bevels around the strip. All these issues are very very minor.
Works out of the box in Debian 12, in LMMS, Ardour, and Sunvox.
If you are a fan of mini keys, I would recommend it, if not, then this one is not for you.

-Solid metal body; sturdy and reliable
-Powered by a single USB cable; no batteries or power cord required
-Smaller keys that feel very different from a conventional piano/keyboard
-61 notes that allow it to be compact, while having the notes you play most often available
-Great for children and (in my case) a full-sized adult that doesn't mind the mini keys for sketching ideas
This Midiplus X6 (as well as the X4 and X3) are MIDI controllers, not synthesizers. This means that it produces information based on your input. There are no internal sounds. You will not hear any music with this alone. What is does do is the following... When you play the Midiplus, it takes the information you input (what notes you play; how hard you strike the notes; how long you hold them etc), along with the parameters you adjust with the 2 sliders, 4 knobs, sustain pedal (NOT included)... Then it translates this information into MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface), and sends it out to the next stage of music production via the included USB cable. You will require a sound engine of some sort to hear music. These days that usually means a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) like Logic, GarageBand (only for Mac computers) FL, Cubase, Ableton, Cakewalk (free and for PC), Pro Tools etc. Alternatively, you could use a digital interface.
Anyway, you will need some internal computer software or outboard hardware to hear music. A DAW is a great choice because you can record and switch instruments and create many layers, as well as edit and snap them to a time grid if you're sloppy etc. There is a ton to know, but the important points are that this is a MIDI controller, not an independent instrument. And it is a mini keyboard, not a full-sized one. If that fits your requirements, get it!
Unfortunately, I've had it often send values even when I'm not touching the knobs, and this caused me a lot of problems until I figured out what was happening. If you don't need the knobs for CC control, you can probably program them to send unused values like I did, but otherwise, watch out.
