Whom the Gods Love (Of Gods & Mortals Book 1) Kindle Edition
When Cass draws her blade, nothing can stop her. Except maybe a god.
Cass is a seasoned warrior with many battles under her belt. She's tamed griffins, toppled trolls and conquered mountains. She's a warrior. Helping others in need is what warriors do. She's never been afraid of a challenge. Until now.
A quest lands at her feet to help an ailing queen. It's a simple mission, and there's a bonus to it. A handsome northerner has offered to join Cass on her journey. Under any other circumstances, Cass would be delighted with such a task. Adventure? Excitement? Altruism? A fellow warrior with eyes the color of icebergs? A tent big enough for two? Sign her up.
But then there's that god to deal with. The cure for the queen lies in his temple. He's a nasty sort who isn't given to saving queens. Still, the northerner is quite warm, and the nights will be cold. Cass must do the right thing, gods be damned.

Review
"Wow, I'm actually surprised by how much I loved this book! Fantastic fantasy adventure suitable for adults and mature teens. Although there are the standard themes and tropes present to make it a traditional fantasy, it really struck me as so much more due to the depth of the characters and the fact that even for a fantasy the rules seemed to go out the window a few times and really threw me for a loop." - Elizabeth Brown (Goodreads)
"The story is entertaining and the book is well written. I recommend it to all fans of the genre." - Bobby Craton (Amazon reviewer)
"I'm a huge fan of mythology and this book certainly plays to that love. You can immediately tell that this book is well thought out, well laid out, well written and extravagantly loved." - K (Amazon reviewer)
"In "Whom the Gods Love", M.M. Perry has shown herself to be an author of great talent for weaving complex plots brought passionately to life by the strong, intelligent, and authentic characters, and I like how this book is just as much character-driven as it is plot-driven. It's funny because I rarely read much fantasy books, but Ms. Perry has me hooked and now I want to read the rest of the series!" - Layla (Goodreads)
"Their dangerous quest to find a cure for the Queen's illness was immediately absorbing, and the story never let me down. The final page left me waiting for the next book in the series." - Booked4Life
"All too often I read works that feel clearly derivative of other books, and although I appreciate literary influences (as is mildly felt here on occasion as well), when something this original comes along it is a refreshing change of pace! In my opinion it was the characters themselves that made it feel unique, with their personalities and that they really did a great job of carrying the story forward well through dialogue and action, not just dense narrative prose (which drives me crazy). For such a long book I finished it in less than a week, and went through so many highs and lows, it felt like a rollercoaster." - Megan (Goodreads)
From the Author
"Could it be real?" Callan asked, desperate to stop the soft sobbing coming from the mist.
"No," Cass said tersely. "Stay calm."
Callan swallowed heavily. He couldn't make out anything more than a half dozen feet away in the fog. The ground began to dip a little in a natural depression and the fog thickened. Callan could not even see the other riders now. He whipped his hand back and forth in front of his face fruitlessly trying to clear the air, hoping for a break in the fog. As he spun his gaze back to the right again a scream caught in his throat.
A hideous face hovered in the air, inches from him. The face was a mockery of a woman's. The nose was covered in shimmering scales that might have been attractive had the rest of the face not set the tone. The mouth was curled into a permanent sneer. Sharp teeth ringed the mouth, stained, with scraps of rotting flesh caught between some of them. The eyes were like a bird of prey's, golden and fierce. The skin was mottled and pitted with deep irregular scars. There was some hair framing the face, but it was thin and patchy. Great sections of the scalp were bare of hair, and looked raw and suppurating.

About the author
M.M. Perry has published thirteen books. By day, she is an expert cat and dog wrangler, a nacho connoisseur, and writer of fantasy, science fiction and horror. By night… she does the same things. She is hard at work editing her next novel. She’s equally busy teaching her pug to sing along to the Muppets. She is known for saying, “No task involving a pug is impossible, just highly improbable.”

The characters are immediately likeable. They are realistic in threat thoughts and mannerisms. The author alternates between serious tones and exposition and humor expertly. The old woman, Inez, was an immediate favorite of mine. Her spunk and wit made her not only likeable but both a character of wisdom, humor, and mystery. While reading I was intrigued by her and the hints that the seer said that she must be part of the quest.
The quest combines unlikely heroes one after the other. I love how different from each other they all are which allows so many perspectives to be explored and developed. With a character cast of so many different personalities, it's easy for trouble to arise with making sure their chemistry and dialogue flows but the author pulled it off naturally and smoothly. Even though all the characters are so different, they still click together and it works for the story.
This is a fantastic read and is entertaining from the very first paragraph. It's difficult to put down because you just want to know what will happen next.
There are some sexual references and scenes which I don't usually prefer, but the author kept them from being pornographic (which isn't usually the case in fantasy works) while still making them hot and steamy. Also, Inez the horny old woman was hilarious throughout.
The book was a little predictable but not every work needs to have convoluted twists and turns that keep you guessing. With the way this book reads I'm pretty sure M. M. Perry plays Dungeons and Dragons and I cannot wait to read more of her works!
There’s romance, action, a touch of humour and noble characters with altruistic motivations. This is a combination I always find appealing, and here the elements are skilfully combined into an engaging, well-executed story.

I got Siri to read it to me while I was painting. I found it funny, made me think and picture what was going on. I love to guess what happens to characters.
Great Descriptions of characters, of the lands, great story flow.
I’ve read this book over 6 months ago, I’m still thinking about it.
