From the brand
Since 1996
FRIO provides people with diabetes and other medication users with the ultimate accessory to keep their medication cool and safe.
-
FRIO innovates medication cooling, liberating insulin users from traditional constraints. During disasters, it emerges as a life-saving solution, ensuring the safety of life-sustaining medications. The brand engages communities, collaborates with corporations, and advocates for emergency preparedness, embodying values of innovation, compassion, and a strong commitment to saving lives.
-
-
Why Choose FRIO?
FRIO is different from other medication coolers because it never needs ice packs or refrigeration. This differentiator cuts the invisible chain to refrigeration, allowing a person who is dependent on insulin the convenience and freedom that he could never possibly enjoy before.
Our Mission
Save lives with insulin cooling.
Core Values
Innovation, compassion, community, life-saving commitment, responsibility, preparedness advocacy.
-
Puerto Rico, Maria, and FRIO
FRIO stands out from other medication coolers as it doesn't require ice or refrigeration, offering unprecedented freedom to insulin-dependent individuals. Its value was proven during disasters like Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, where it ensured life-saving medications like insulin remained cool without power. Over 25,000 FRIOs were distributed in Puerto Rico post-hurricane, effectively addressing the challenge of maintaining insulin efficacy for the island's diabetic population, demonstrating FRIO's critical role in emergency preparedness.
-
This summarizes our rewarding experience in achieving our goal.
In the aftermath of the hurricane, we tried contacting major organizations for assistance but faced delays with larger entities. Direct shipping of FRIOs to Puerto Rico was also not viable initially due to disrupted courier services and distribution challenges, preventing us from ensuring the FRIOs reached those in need.
We contacted the Diabetes coalition of JDRF, ADA, and Insulin for Life. Though we aimed for a broader collaboration, we donated a significant number of FRIOs, which Insulin for Life distributed in the island.
-
The need for action was urgent. As media highlighted the crisis, we were inundated with offers to help. Collaboration between JDRF's Linda Popky, Carb DM's Tamar Sofer-Geri, and our own Lisa Katzki led to a fundraising effort on Carb DM's site, quickly raising funds for 1,000 FRIOs for Puerto Rico. Yankee All-Star Jorge Posada and Dr. Luis Perez of the Puerto Rico Diabetes Association facilitated transportation and distribution.
-
Grassroots and Corporate Support for Puerto Rico's Emergency Needs
Numerous established and new grassroots organizations nationwide also took similar actions. They also raised funds from hundreds of generous donors and sponsored FRIOs to be sent to Puerto Rico.
The private sector also rose to the occasion. A healthcare company chartered a private plane and sent 1,000 FRIOs and other emergency supplies to its constituents in Puerto Rico. The international pharmaceutical company, Sanofi, sponsored 15,000 FRIOs - to be handed out to those in Puerto Rico who needed them!
-
As services resumed, capitalism contributed, with a major distributor buying thousands of FRIOs for island pharmacies and new distributors emerging to meet the need.
Being part of this solution was rewarding, underscoring the importance of emergency preparedness for those reliant on temperature-sensitive medications. If not now, when?

How to use your FRIOTo activate the FRIO wallet, immerse it in cold water for 5-15 minutes. Soaking times vary, please refer to instruction leaflet. Crystals contained in the panels of the wallet then expand into a gel, which remains cool for up to several days — relying on the process of evaporation for cooling. Just towel dry the outside and it’s ready to go! For continuous use put the FRIO back in water for a maximum of 2 minutes. It can be reactivated over and over again. |
Consistent high performance in challenging conditionsFRIO wallets keep insulin safe for a minimum of 45 hours (more than five times longer than an ice pack) — even in constant environmental temperatures of 100 degrees Fahrenheit! Keep one at home and make FRIO cooling packs part of your travel kit or emergency supply kit today — no more bulky, inconvenient ice packs or thermos flasks required ever again! You’ll wonder what you ever did without one. |
Dry to the touch and easy to take alongAlthough activated by water, a feature of the product is that after towel-drying, the FRIO wallet is dry to the touch. The Cambrelle outer pouch wallet increases the wallet’s efficiency and allows it to be carried safely in your pocket or a bag as required. Each wallet is re-usable and can be used either continuously or intermittently. |

Someone in one of my Latex Allergy groups recommended the Frio Large Wallet for this sort of purpose and we double checked that it kept the right temperature for an EpiPen (where you don't want it as cold as insulin can be stored in) and, when there was an Epipen shortage and I had to get another brand, Impax, that was taller and thinner it still fit the case!
I don't use mine often, so it's usually stored dry inside my house, but whenever I need it it charges up so simply and then I set it in the air to dry out after and pack it away :) Last summer it impressed everyone with how I filled it on a Friday and after the outdoor college graduation on Sunday in a heatwave so bad that at least 3 people collapsed and needed medical care, my epis were perfectly cool to the touch... And again during an outdoor funeral reception in another heat wave, when someone's bag with their epis got left in the sun and another relative made the rounds to see whose it was, neither of the other epi users had a cooling case and both spend a lot of time outdoors in the summer or in Puerto Rico at any time of the year with family, so they both know the pain of losing epis to the heat! Both rushed to order one!
Game changer for sure.
This is a great purchase well worth the price I suggest you buy it
