FRIO Large Wallet Cool Safe Protect

FRIO Large Wallet

Keep your insulin safe in the FRIO DUO Wallet. These wallets keep your insulin cool without the need for any refrigerated products like ice. The cooling properties come from the evaporation of water and keep its low temperatures for over 2 days, even in challenging environments. Giving you the ability to go days without having to worry about re-activating. They are also easy to use, only taking 5-15 minutes to activate.

This light and compact version of the FRIO Wallet gives you the ability to keep multiple pens or vials safe while on the go. In it protect up to five (5) insulin pens or six (6) 10ml vials of insulin and syringes.

Reliable, Long lasting, Durable

The Classic range is the worlds first, patented insulin cooling wallets. Launched in 1996, the Classic range has kept insulin cool and safe for millions of people living with diabetes over the past three decades. Proudly made in England.

Great for Challenging Weather!

FRIO wallets have been used in temperatures in excess of 120°F with complete success. FRIO wallets also help protect insulin from cold temperatures as well!

Not just for Insulin

The FRIO can also be used for other medications — Byetta, Victoza, glaucoma eye drops, some growth hormones, MS medications, etc.

Travel Friendly

Compact and easy to store, all FRIO wallets are TSA approved. FRIO offers you convenience, freedom and, most importantly, peace of mind.

They are so easy to use!

How to use your FRIO

To activate the FRIO wallet, immerse it in cold water for 5-15 minutes. Soaking times vary, please refer to instruction leaflet. Crystals contained in the panels of the wallet then expand into a gel, which remains cool for up to several days — relying on the process of evaporation for cooling. Just towel dry the outside and it’s ready to go! For continuous use put the FRIO back in water for a maximum of 2 minutes. It can be reactivated over and over again.

Consistent high performance in challenging conditions

FRIO wallets keep insulin safe for a minimum of 45 hours (more than five times longer than an ice pack) — even in constant environmental temperatures of 100 degrees Fahrenheit! Keep one at home and make FRIO cooling packs part of your travel kit or emergency supply kit today — no more bulky, inconvenient ice packs or thermos flasks required ever again! You’ll wonder what you ever did without one.

Dry to the touch and easy to take along

Although activated by water, a feature of the product is that after towel-drying, the FRIO wallet is dry to the touch. The Cambrelle outer pouch wallet increases the wallet’s efficiency and allows it to be carried safely in your pocket or a bag as required. Each wallet is re-usable and can be used either continuously or intermittently.

Usable, but be very careful - the performance claims are NOT real-world results.

Usable, but be very careful - the performance claims are NOT real-world results.
I had mixed results. I could not achieve the manufacturer's performance claims. Your results will vary.First, you must understand two things:1) It is obviously NOT a substitute for a refrigerator. It will NOT keep your medicines at the recommended long-term refrigerator temperatures (i.e., for insulin, the typical storage range is typically 36 F. to 46 F.). Many people have misunderstood this.2) Its ability to work is DIRECTLY dependent upon the ambient air's relative humidity (RH). The higher the humidity, the worse it performs. This is because it relies on evaporation, just like the sweat on your skin cools you down (evaporation carries away heat). The more humid the air becomes, the less evaporation occurs.Real-world test methodology:1) I followed the instructions exactly except that the bag was empty - I was not going to risk any medications to this experiment.2) It was tested in multiple locations (on a covered, shaded porch, and in a car with the bag under the seat) over a two-day period in ambient temperatures ranging from 68 F. to 93 F, and with ambient RH ranging from 45 to 70 percent (typically around 60%, though). See the multiple pictures over two days to see the results.3) The bag was opened and closed several times to simulate real-life usage.4) In the attached pictures, the temperature shown on the LEFT side of the digital thermometer is the temperature INSIDE the inner bag, where your medicines go.5) The temperature shown on the RIGHT side of the digital thermometer is the ambient temperature.6) This dual-thermometer is accurate to within plus/minus 2 degrees according to it's specs, but in my experience, by comparing it to other thermometers, it is accurate to within one degree.7) The small dial in the round thermometer/hygrometer combo instrument is the APPROXIMATE ambient RH. The temperature dial in this round thermometer is not as accurate so disregard it.Real-life test results:1) After FOUR hours of use (i.e., two hours since the inner bag was hydrated and after a two-hour heat-soak in a car, under the seat) the temp inside the bag was 75.2 F. at an ambient of 89.4 F., 60% RH. This would protect your medications.2) If the temp would have been 100 F. at 60% RH, the temperature would have EXCEEDED the manufacturer's claims, i.e., a failure.3) After 24 hours the test failed - with a inside car temperature at 93 F. and the ambient RH of 52%, the temp inside the bag was 81.7 F., which exceeds the maximum value claimed by the manufacturer. Conclusion:Performance is limited and you must understand what is going on and approach it with caution. It should be usable as long as you understand and observe the following:With typical humidity levels and temps experienced on the East Coast and in the Southern USA during the summer, this bag will NOT protect your medicines for 24 hours (much less than the 48 hours advertised) if the temps are anywhere approaching 90. Therefore, you will need to rehydrate the bag after about 12 to 18 hours. For the advertised maximum performance to be achieved, you'd have to be in an ARID climate, but that would mean that the bag would dry out even faster, requiring more frequent re-hydrations.I highly recommend that you get an accurate thermometer that has a lead that can go inside the inner bag so you can read the temperature from the outside.I also recommend that you consider putting your medicines in a small zip-lock bag, press all the air out of it so that there are limited to no "bubbles of air," and seal it tightly and put it in the inner bag. It's very damp in the bag, and most medicines state, "store in a cool and dry place." Remember, it is damp in that bag.
